Fundraising for Maytree

Maytree is a small charity based in North London, centered around a small respite centre. They bill themselves as ‘A Sanctuary for the Suicidal’, offering short-term one-off stays to people struggling with suicidal ideation.

I was a guest of theirs for four nights in late 2013. I’m not sure I can credit any one thing with my continued existence, but I think it’s fair to say that without Maytree, there’s a significant reduction in the likelihood that I’d be around to write this today.

As such, I thought it would be a good thing for me to put this opportunity to use and see if I can’t do something to help an organisation that offers support to some of those who are most in need of it. You can donate here. I’d like to point out that I have already paid for my entry and will pay for all costs of the actual event – 100% of your donated money will be going to Maytree.

They are largely a volunteer-run charity, with hundreds offering their time and only a handful of paid administrative staff. General costs include upkeep of the centre, training of volunteers, and providing food/clean bedding/etc to guests. If you have any questions about this wonderful little group of people, feel free to sling them my way.
